The FUEL CELL...this is a basic fuel cell mount that Church
put
designed to integrate the fuel cell mount into the rear of the
car tieing it all together for total safety.
The cell itself is an RCI 22 Gallon Rubber Bladder inside a steel
cabinet designed to handle the a rough track at high speed.
This unit does not come with internal foam...we have had issues
with foam internals in the past, se we decided to leave well
enough alone.
The RCI makes an easy installation with one 8-AN fitting for
pickup.
This is Church's design using 1 by 1 by 1/8 square tube and 2 by
1/8 flat strap. The cell is sandwiched between the rear cage and
the secondary chassis bar which is 2 by 2 by 3/16 square bar.
The 2 inch straps are run around the cell and welded to the 1 by
square tubing that surrounds the cell entirely. Church then
added two 1/4 by 2 inch straps across the top and held in place
by 7/16 hardware all around.
We followed the Penn-Ohio rules on cell placement and then
Church went well beyond the minimum required.
The drawing below
displays the actual design phase.
Church does all his design work in a drawing program.
There are no specifics, he looks at the car, takes a mental
photo and generates what we need. Most of the time he builds in way too much
"overkill" but don't tell him Gary said that...
